Of Ponies, Happy Meals, and Doll Commercials

A Safe Driving public service announcement regarding car seats features comments on why boys should play with dolls: "Did you know boys that play with dolls make better fathers?"  Dolls are everywhere, now more than ever.

For those who love Happy Meal Dolls and toys, the current offerings are Transformers and My Little Pony.  Several of the Ponies are the actual dolls, with a few little horses, too.  They are very cute with rooted hair and good detail. For more information on Happy Meal Toys, see my site, Doll Collecting at about.com, at collectdolls.about.com.  Current information on the 2015 toys is available there.

Monster High dolls are beginning to appear at Goodwill and other thrift shops.  If under $5 per doll, I'd say they are a good buy.  I also see MH at Walgreens and Kohls.

For more on current collectible dolls on YouTube see Mommy and Gracie, "The Doll Hunters," "Confessions of a Doll Collector's Daughter" by Kewpie83, and my own YouTube Channel, under Ellen Tsagaris.

Also trending at thrift shops are international dolls, mass produced porcelains, and good early vinyl dolls from the late 50s and through the 60s.  I also see the walking dolls of my childhood appearing at thrift shops and doll shows.  These are usually under $15.00 and are a good buy, especially if in very good shape with original clothing.

On ebay, antique reproduction dolls of all types and in all price ranges are appearing, with artist made dolls selling over $300.

Happy Collecting; see also our blog Antique Doll Collector Magazine Blog, also on blogspot.
