On June 9, 2018, I was privileged to run a one day doll
appraisal program for a local historical society. All the money earned went to the museum. We had a blast, and I got to see many
wonderful dolls.
One lovely lady in particular was particularly enthusiastic. She and I talked several time before the
program; she brought several very unusual dolls for me to appraise. Her name was Margie P., and she just bubbled
over when she talked. She was very happy
to be around the dolls, and to talk to me about her appraisals.
Months later, my friend Kathy, also Margie’s dear friend,
contacted me to tell me that Margie had died, and her dolls were going to be
sold. I was able to drive to Margie’s beautiful home to
meet her husband and family. Her
daughters and Kathy were very kind, and several of Margie’s dolls came home
with me.
I will always take care of them, always treasure them. Her
sweet generous spirit came with them.
Doll collecting kept her young, really made her ageless. That’s the best part of his hobby. People like Margie are what make it so great.
